BSc, Integrated Sciences Student
Research Assistant
I joined the NINET Lab in early 2023, starting out as a volunteer before moving into a Work-Learn and later receiving a research grant position. It was my first real experience working in a healthcare research setting, and each role gave me the chance to take on more responsibility and dive deeper into our projects — especially the CARS Study on electroconvulsive therapy (ECT).
I’m currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Integrated Sciences at UBC, with a focus on neuroscience, public health, and pharmacological and educational interventions. My degree is multidisciplinary by design — it allows me to explore healthcare from multiple perspectives, whether that’s at the level of brain stimulation or broader public health systems. That range helps me better understand how different parts of the healthcare system connect, and ultimately, how to become a more well-rounded and thoughtful healthcare provider.
At the lab, I am responsible for collecting and rechecking clinical data, organizing and cleaning large databases, and building R scripts to help process data. Currently, I am exploring how medications like benzodiazepines and anticonvulsants impact ECT outcomes.
When I’m not working on research, I’m usually outdoors biking, skiing, golfing, or playing poker with friends — or trying to fit all four into one weekend.
Some of my work at the lab includes:
